Step by Step Instructions

You must read the IKEA instructions. I do too! Here’s the step-by-step guide to get your button working.

To use the mütesync physical mute button, you need to install the mütesync app. The app can also be used without a physical button as a free virtual mute button.

install it

On both Mac and Windows, you will be asked if you want to run a program downloaded from the internet. You do. :)

On Windows you’ll see that our application is published by Toor Wicker Industries, LLC. That’s the formal name our company (our last names) that turned into mütesync.

open the mütesync app

If the app didn’t already open, head to your list of applications and launch mütesync. Since it’s the first time you are running the app, on Mac you’ll have to grant permission to the app. Permissions allow mütesync to monitor your mute status in video calls and to toggle your microphone.

There is a Setup Guide inside the app that helps you configure and test mütesync with different meeting applications. Try it out!

FYI The following steps are also covered in the Onboard Tour you’ll see once you install the app. Missed it? Right click on the mutesync icon and click Setup to get back to the tour.

On Windows, simply say yes to the prompts you see.

On Mac, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Ensure you’re on the Privacy Tab and then click on Accessibility in the menu on the left.

In the list of applications you will see mütesync with an unchecked box next to it. To check the box simply unlock the page (click the lock in the lower left and enter your password) and check it.

If mütesync is not in the list of applications, use the plus sign to add it.

plug it in

If you have a physical button, plug it in. The button will flash once indicating it is properly connected. Start a meeting to test it out! Having issues? Head over to our FAQ to troubleshoot.

No button? No problem! The virtual mute button works great on it’s own! If you want to add a physical button head to our shop.

You’re all set up! The virtual mute button will now be visible in your Mac Menu Bar (the top right of your screen) or Windows System Tray (bottom right) and the physical mute button is now set up.
